Empanadas

So far, most restaurants I’ve been to in Costa Rica have offered their own versions of empanda. Some are sweet, with chocolate or creamy fillings, but oftentimes, they’re filled with meat or beans and cheese. They’re usually very affordable and a nice, filling little snack to get you through a midday slump. I prefer an empanada filled with meat and cheese and often pair it with a hot cup of coffee.

There is a great, streetside cafe in Grecia with a lovely view of the church that serves the best empanadas I’ve had so far in Costa Rica. Served with a thin salsa on the side, these are warm, crispy and hit the spot on a rainy day. This day I decided to treat myself to a cold coffee drink!
